98: No Ragrets

March 2021

We’ve gone and done it and have ripped off the band-aid this episode by the both of us sharing a few of our “no regrets ragrets” moments from this path month…. in between our monthly updates and gameroom discussion we touched on many topics that had we stopped and pondered a bit, we might have had a moment of regret (buyers remorse, maybe??), but nah…. THERE ARE NO RAGRETS in this hobby!

Over the course of this past month, we:

  • Sold some arcade games, sold some pins
  • Spent time with Frog and Spiders, Mr. Do’s Wild Ride, Battlezone, Championship Sprint, a Nintendo Vs. cab and a GDI Red Alert
  • Revisited our soldering setups
  • Discussed automotive alternator and starter rebuild kits (how the heck??)
  • Went in WAY too deep with Audacity Games and their new Atari 2600 game, Circus Convoy
  • Picked up another 3D Printer
  • Started working on an “always up-to-date” mod listing for the Ender 3 Pro and other Creality 3D Printers (check back here for a link and watch social media when the post goes live)
  • Stand ready to buy the new Craftymech TPG2
  • Eyed some reproduction Sega G80 mainboards
  • Want to get some reproduction Defender ROM boards
  • and too many other things to remember!

1. No more 2532/2716 burning, everything on a single ROM.
2. The ROM is big enough to hold 16 game versions (4 meg EPROM) or 32 versions (8 meg EPROM) which can easily be switched between. All versions must be Defender variants/hacks/bootlegs.
3. Remote board in the coin door for game selection.
4. NVRAM built in. You can enable or disable the NVRAM from the DIP switches, if enabled the CPU board CMOS RAM is disabled, if disabled the CPU Board CMOS ram takes over.
5. Optionally incorporates the interface (widget) board, again this can be enabled or disabled in DIP switches to use the original.
6. Detachable ribbon cable. No more dead games due to crappy ribbons that don't have any strain relief!
7. Fully socketed with quality sockets for easy maintenance in the future.
8. Power LED and RESET LED (this only lights if the CPU is stuck in reset).
9. Finally, we have .... PAUSE MODE. Press P1 and P2 at the same time (requires built in widget) or the button on the remote board to pause the CPU, press again to release. (Note this function requires Watchdog to be disabled on the CPU and may cause monitor burn if used for prolonged periods, use at your own risk).
